Spool Bearing Pin Remover

Spool Bearing Pin Remover with a black shield-shaped body and a steel T-handle threaded pin, on a white background

The pin remover presses the cross pin out of the spool shaft, so you can change the spool bearing behind it, and presses it back in straight. The threaded T-handle lets you work with feel instead of force.

With pliers the risk of slipping is high, and one slip is enough to damage the spool. The pin remover holds the shaft and keeps the pressure where it belongs.

You need it on reels where a spool bearing sits behind a pin. The bearing finder tells you if your reel is one of them.

Why you need it

The bearing sits behind a pin. This gets you there.

On many baitcasters one spool bearing is held on the spool shaft by a small cross pin. To change the bearing, the pin has to come out and go back in straight. With pliers the risk of slipping is high, and one slip is enough to damage the spool. The pin remover holds the shaft and presses the pin out cleanly.

  • 1 toolpin out and pin back in
  • No pliersno slipping, no damaged spool
  • T-handlethreaded, so you press with feel
  • Exact Fittells you if your reel needs it

How it works

Three steps to the bearing.

  1. Seat the spoolLay the spool shaft into the tool so the pin lines up with the threaded pin of the T-handle.
  2. Press the pin outTurn the T-handle slowly. The pin slides out to one side and the bearing comes free.
  3. Swap and press backPut the new bearing on, then press the pin back until it sits centred in the shaft again.

Good to know: go slowly and keep the pin straight. A pin that sits off centre can touch the brake or the side plate. Installation is at your own risk.

FAQ

Questions about the tools

Does my reel need a pin remover?

Only if a spool bearing sits behind a pin on the spool shaft. Type your reel into the bearing finder. It tells you if your reel is one of them.

Is the pin remover part of the tool kit?

Yes. The Baitcaster Reel Tool Kit includes a pin remover. If you only need to get the pin out, the single pin remover is enough.

Which reels do the tools fit?

The tools are made for baitcasting reels. Bits, wrench and hex key cover the common screws and handle nuts.

Is there a manual?

No. Every reel comes apart a little differently. If you service your own reels you will know your way around. Maintenance and installation are at your own risk.
