Tools

Tools for bearing swaps and reel service on baitcasters. The pin remover gets the spool pin out cleanly, the tool kit covers the rest.

Guide

The tools a bearing swap really needs

Most of a spool bearing swap needs no special tools. One step does: on many baitcasters a spool bearing sits behind a small pin through the spool shaft. That pin has to come out before the bearing does, and it has to go back in afterwards.

Why a pin remover and not pliers

With pliers you grip a small round pin right next to the spool. The risk of slipping is high, and a slip means a bent pin or a scratched spool. A pin remover holds the shaft and pushes the pin straight out and back in. It takes a few seconds and nothing gets marked.

Pin remover or tool kit

  • Spool Bearing Pin Remover: enough if you only want to change spool bearings.
  • Baitcaster Reel Tool Kit: six tools in a case, pin remover included. The better choice for a full bearing kit or regular reel service, because you also need to open the side plate, handle and knobs.

Does your reel have a pinned bearing?

Not every reel does. Type your reel into the bearing finder and it tells you whether a pin remover is needed.

FAQ

Questions about tools

Do I need a pin remover to change spool bearings?

Only if one of the spool bearings sits behind a pin on the spool shaft. The bearing finder tells you whether your reel is one of them.

Can I remove the spool pin with pliers?

It can work, but the risk is high. Pliers slip easily on the small pin and then damage the pin or the spool. A pin remover pushes the pin out straight.

Is the pin remover part of the tool kit?

Yes. The Baitcaster Reel Tool Kit includes a pin remover. If you only need to get the pin out, the single pin remover is enough.

Which reels do the tools fit?

The tools are made for baitcasting reels. Bits, wrench and hex key cover the common screws and handle nuts.

Is there a manual included?

No. Every reel comes apart a little differently. Maintenance and installation are at your own risk.
